The Widows Home is Part of Dina Makhmudova’s American Dream

In 2006, Dina Makhmudova came to the United States from Russia with her family in the hopes of finding new opportunities for happiness and success; a chance at a better life. First landing in California, that’s where Dina learned English, got her GED, and then earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing. It was hard work, but she did it because she wanted to help people and do it in a field that offered job security. After graduating from college, she started down her career path as a registered nurse by looking for jobs all over the country. Thanks to an affordable cost of living and reasonable housing prices, her job search brought her to Dayton.

We are proud to say that the Widows Home offered Dina her first RN position, and now, a year later, it’s clear that her American Dream is becoming reality. Dina says that she loves taking care of the elderly—it’s what drew her to nursing care in the first place. She likes working with us because she enjoys the teamwork and positivity of her co-workers, and loves getting to know the residents and their families. Since the birth of her 7-month-old son, she has been working on a PRN (as needed) basis. She appreciates the flexibility we offer our staff that allows her to stay home with her baby and is happy to be part of the Widows Home community.

Outside of work, Dina spends as much time as possible with her family (her husband, three sons, and her parents) and her favorite hobby is cooking—mostly in the style of her Turkish heritage.
